Mortepumpen

When Mortepumpen opened in 1955, it embodied more than just a restaurant—it was a tribute to Stavanger’s architectural heritage. The visionary behind this immersive design was architect Einar Hedén celebrated for leading the preservation of Stavanger’s iconic wooden town—Old Stavanger. Hedén meticulously recreated façades of historic wooden houses from Andasmauet—one of Gamle Stavanger’s charming alleyways—at one-third of their actual size, lining the restaurant walls with the atmosphere of old town charm. Today, this heritage-protected space offers a truly unique setting for private dining and special occasions.
